Wonka Interactive YouTube Experience (Video)
July 13, 2011
For some reason, I often forget Wonka is an actual chocolate company instead of an ad hoc brand extension from whoever producers the movies.
In the event others share this misperception - or maybe to enhance it - Wonka has launched an interactive YouTube experience called The Imagination Room where you can "see the wonder and whimsy that goes into every Wonka bar."
Which reminds me of the other perception I have about Wonka, which was that the movies were kind of creepy. The experience is a bit like Dalian acid trip (watch a demo here). Factor in an Oompa-Loompa sighting or two and things could get ugly. This is really the last place on earth I'd actually want to visit.
But that's not to say this initiative from Ogilvy and B-Reel isn't potentially perfect for its audience. I think for those who are fond of the Wonka brand - and many if not most people are - this is a great way to check out "How Wonka Does Chocolate."
And with bars like Scrumdiddlyumptious - described as milk chocolate with scrumptious toffee, crispy cookie and crunchy peanuts - once again on my radar, it may be high time I gave Wonka a second chance.
What's your take? Is this wild romp a milk chocolate must?
Or a psycho sugar crash?

For as much time as they seem to have spent on designing, it, there really wasn't much interaction. I think I spent more time waiting for it to load than actually interacting. Plus, when I think of Wonka, I think of things like Everlasting Gobstoppers (and yes, Oompa Loompas) neither of which even has a passing acknowledgement here. I know it's how Wonka does chocolate...but there could have been so much more. I find myself somewhat disappointed. But it was interesting to see a YouTube video that's interactive. First one I've seen, so that in itself sparked my interest the most.
